Use the search box in the Messenger to find a conversation by the contact's name or phone number.

Before you start

  • You can only find conversations on phone numbers you have access to.

Steps

  1. Open Messenger.

  2. Click the Search conversations... box at the top of the list.

  3. Type a first name, last name, full name or phone number.

  4. Click the conversation you want.

What happens next

  • The search looks at every conversation you can reach, open or resolved. It does not matter which tab you are on. A resolved conversation can show up while you are on Mine.

  • To go back to the normal list, clear the search box.

Common questions

Can I search for words inside a text?

No. Search looks at contact first names, last names and phone numbers only. It does not search email addresses.

Do I need to type the whole phone number?

No. Part of the number works. You can type it with or without dashes and brackets. If you type more letters than numbers, the search looks at names only.

Why can't I find someone I know we texted?

Check the brand and location picked at the top right of the screen. Try All locations. If you still can't find it, the conversation may be on a phone number your team does not have access to. Also check your Messenger settings: if Hide contacts who never replied is on, people who never texted back stay hidden.
